Jerusalem is often referred to as the city of God. Psalm 87 speaks of the life, the celebration, and the joy found within Jerusalem. “The people play flutes and sing, “The source of my life springs from Jerusalem!” (7) The presence of God was felt in this city. Where God is present, life is present. Hope is present. Love is present. To be in the presence of God allows us to cultivate an intimate relationship with the one who created us and loves us far more than anyone else on this earth possibly could. The intense feeling of peace that comes from knowing God and having an intimate, personal relationship with him causes us to overflow with joy. It makes me want to lift my hands in praise and shout, “Where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom!”
