I Belong to YOU

I absolutely love this song, 'I Belong to You', by Superchick. For me this song only speaks of God. (Not some "boyfriend" or "significant other", which I can tell you most people think this song is referring to.) Ultimately God is the only one in my life who won't leave my side and who will be with me through everything I go through. Realistically, He is the only one who can. In the end, God's opinion of me and what I have done in my life is the only one that matters. It's the only one that SHOULD matter. It doesn't matter to Him what I look like, what type of job I have, how much money I make, and what things I like to do in my free time. It doesn't matter to him what clothes I wear, how much I weigh, and whether or not I can sing, or what denomination I am. Like Ecclesiastes 1:2 says, everything is utterly meaningless! Everything in this world will change, everything will fade away, everyone will disappoint me at some point (it's humanly impossible not to, because we are not perfect beings) But God, even though often very mysterious at times and constantly teaching me things through waiting on HIm, will never disappoint me. Sure there will be times where I am disappointed because I didnt get what I wanted, but that's not God disappointing me, that's being disappointed in my own sinful selfishness. God isn't out to disappoint me, and hurt me, and lead me on... God is the "man with the plan" and not the second best plan, according to Him, but the VERY best plan. If I am stuck at my current job for the rest of my life cause that's where God wants me, then so be it. If I constantly interview for other jobs only to get turned down, because God has a bigger and better plan for me, then I HAVE to learn to be patient, and to wait upon Him. In waiting upon Him I must be willing to surrender. Not just what I want to surrender, but everything! Every breath I breathe, every waking moment of every day. Surrender is by no means easy. Its dying to myself everyday and consciously choosing to follow God, no matter how difficult the road may be. I must surrender my independent spirit to God and say to Him with all my heart "THY WILL BE DONE!" Not only that, but also "THY WILL BE MINE!" I think then and only then can I truly be glad that I belong to the one and only God, who loves me just because I exist. I don't have to do anything to win his love. I don't have to prove anything to Him in order to win His affections. He gives it to me freely because He truly loves ME - NO strings attached! At the end of the day when I lay my head on my pillow at night I long to be able to say and truly mean it with every fiber of my being "God, I am so glad I belong to YOU!"
