“I took my troubles to the Lord; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.” (Ps 120:1)
When troubles come your way, how do you respond? Do you struggle through handling them on your own? What do you do when you are faced with an insurmountable obstacle? Most of us try to handle everything on our own and wait to ask for help when we are completely exhausted and overwhelmed. Why is it that we wait to call upon the Lord? God is bigger than anything we could possibly face in life. He is strong enough to handle all that comes our way and yet, there are so many of us, myself included at times, who choose to try to handle everything on our own and only call on God as a last resort. God is in the business of restoration and redemption. He takes all the problems all the hurts and weaves them into a beautiful tapestry. God has given us the hope we need to carry on in the midst of troubles. Handling things our way leads to disappointment, but trusting in God to handle the problems and hurts in our life leads to healing and a closer relationship with Him. God already knows what is going on in our lives, but he wants us to depend on him and not on ourselves, or even on another person, each and every day. I am determined to take my troubles to the Lord and stay away from the temptation of trying to handle everything on my own. It’s not even necessary to handle things on my own, God is standing right here with me ready and willing to help me get through anything that comes in my life. (And he definitely has helped me! Praise the Lord!) He is ready and willing to help you too! Wouldn’t it make sense to allow the One who created you, who knows you better than anyone else, and the One who loves you greater than anyone else, to help you make it through everyday life? He already knows what is going on in your life. When are you going to ask him for help?
