“Listen to me, O my people, while I give you stern warnings. O Israel, if you would only listen to me… But no, my people wouldn’t listen. Israel didn’t want me around” (Psalm 81: 8, 11) God let the Israelites go along blindly, continuing to let them live in their own stubbornness and selfishness. They refused to listen to what God was telling them through the many messengers that God sent to them. It was more important to them to keep living the way that they had been living instead of following God in obedience. Sometimes, God lets us continue along in our own stubbornness. Sometimes we are like the Israelites in our refusal to listen what God is telling us. We choose to continue living our lives the way we are used to living, instead of surrendering our lives and following God in obedience. God doesn’t stop us from rebelling. He lets us learn the consequences of sin the hard way and he uses these experiences to help us turn from sin in our lives and to turn towards him. God loves us greatly and yet, some of us still choose to run away from him and disobey him. Are you running from God? Is there somewhere in your life where you are stubborn? Are refusing to obey God because it is easier to keep living the way you are living? If you answered yes to any of these questions, God loves you greatly and is eagerly waiting for you to turn away from sin and return to him.
