The more you spend time with people and the more you are in an environment, the more you start to become like those people and the more you desire that environment
In Psalm 101, David wrote out his desire to rule and live in such a way that would be honoring to God. “I will sing of your love and justice, Lord. I will praise you with songs. I will be careful to live a blameless life— when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home. I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them. I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil. I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride. I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me. I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence. My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip.” (Psalm 101) That’s quite a hefty list of things David is vowing to do, don’t you think? David desired to honor God in all that he did and this is why he vowed these things. Surrounding yourself with people who are positive influences in your life will enable you to be able to live your life to honor God. If you are immersed in a negative environment with people who constantly tempt you to turn your back on God, eventually you will fall. David strived to live his life in a way that honored God, but he even made mistakes. We all make mistakes. We all sin and fall short of God’s expectations for us. By surrounding yourself with people who are positive influences and who love God, you will be able to learn from them and be encouraged to live your life in a way that is honoring to God. David was a man after God’s own heart and even though he wasn’t perfect, his life is still an example to us as someone who was dedicated to honoring God. Is yours?
