The Authority of God

What does it mean to submit to someone’s authority? To submit to someone’s power and authority means that you are surrendering control over to them. This means that you are obedient to what is asked of you. The power and authority of God vast outweighs anything or anyone else on this earth. Ask yourself: Am I truly submissive to the power and the authority of God? Am I obedient to him? Have I surrendered control to him? In Psalm 114, the psalmist illustrates that all of creation is submissive to the power and authority of God. “The Red Sea saw them coming and hurried out of their way! The water of the Jordan River turned away. The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs! What’s wrong, Red Sea, that made you hurry out of their way? What happened, Jordan River that you turned away? Why, mountains, did you skip like rams? Why, hills, like lambs?” (Psalm 114:3-6) God is in control of all of creation he has authority over all that he created. The mountains, oceans, rivers, trees, and animals all are under the control of God. Where human beings differ is in our God-given ability to choose, or our free will. We have the ability to decide whether or not we will be submissive to God and obedient to Him. God is all powerful and we are not. God is strong and we are weak. If you know that God is much more powerful than anything here on earth and more powerful than anyone here on earth, then wouldn’t it make sense to submit to his authority and power? We all struggle with wanting to do things our own way and we all struggle with trusting and submitting to the power and authority of God because we want that control ourselves. Ask yourself: Am I truly submissive to the power and the authority of God? Am I obedient to him? Have I surrendered control to him?
