When I read Psalm 72, I was reminded of the words to the song, “Sing to the King”, that say; “Sing to the King who is coming to reign. Glory to Jesus, the Lamb that was slain. Life and salvation his empire shall bring. And joy to the nations when Jesus is King” Psalm 72 is a Psalm of hope. Solomon writes about the reign of a perfect king; how he will treat the poor, the oppressed, the needy, and how this perfect king will one day have everyone bowing before him in praise and honor. There has only ever been one perfect king to ever exist here on earth and even though this psalm was written by Solomon, It depicts the coming reign of Jesus the Messiah, which promises to bring hope, justice, and peace. “He will rescue the poor when they cry out to him, he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them. He feels pity for the weak and the needy and he will rescue them. He will redeem them from oppression and violence because their lives are precious to him” (12-14) Can you find hope in that? I know I can!
