Do You Need Him?

It was one of those nights. In fact, it had been one of those weeks. I drove down the road struggling to see through the veil of tears flowing down my face. I turned into the parking lot and turned my car off. I was glad to be home. I grabbed my keys and my Bible and I went to the door. Looking down at my keys, I breathed a sigh of relief and thanksgiving that I had this key; the key that would open the door to solace, to relief. I walked in and turned on the lights glancing up at the cross with tears streaming down my face once again. I fell to the floor and laid on my stomach crying into the carpeted floor. I cried out to God, “I need you. Please help me. Don’t leave me. I need you. I feel so lost, so afraid.” I was once again broken and I had come to the foot of the cross for healing. I knew that God was the only one who could help me; the only one who knew exactly what I was going through. As I laid there on the floor crying out to God, slowly my tears stopped and peace washed over me. I remember sitting up, looking at the up at the cross and thanking God. I knew I was going to be ok. It was going to take some time, but I would be ok. In Psalm 70, David cries out to God to rescue him once again. David found himself time and time again weeping over his need to be rescued. He cried out to God and he knew that God heard him and would answer. David continually sought after God and praised him even in the midst of some very difficult and terrifying circumstances. He never forgot that God was always with him and would always hear his cries for help. When we are in the midst of a storm, it is so easy to focus on our problems and forget all about God, the only one who can truly come to our rescue. One of my favorite songs is “Praise You in This Storm” by Casting Crowns. There is a line in it that says “I’ll praise you in this storm, and I will lift my hands, for you are who you are, no matter where I am.” God doesn’t stop being God when we are struggling. He doesn’t stop loving us when difficult times come our way. He doesn’t stop showing us grace and mercy when the waters get rough. God’s character never changes. He remains the same all the time in all situations. We are the only ones who change. God has used the difficult times in my life to help me to realize just how much I need him, not just to get through the rough waters, but through each and every day. I need God more than I need anything else on this earth. He supplies everything I need. I have a desire to seek him each and every day because I need him each and every day to help me get through life. I have a desire for his Word because it encourages me and teaches me about him too. If you are in the midst of a storm right now, I encourage you to praise God right where you are. He alone has the power to save you. He loves you greatly, even in the midst of your struggle. I realized I needed him right in the midst of a major struggle in my life. Have you realized your need for him? “But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, ‘God is great!” (4)
