What if...

What if the Lord had not been on our side?
Let all Israel repeat:
What if the Lord had not been on our side
when people attacked us?
They would have swallowed us alive
in their burning anger.
The waters would have engulfed us;
a torrent would have overwhelmed us.
Yes, the raging waters of their fury
would have overwhelmed our very lives.

Praise the Lord,
who did not let their teeth tear us apart!
We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap.
The trap is broken, and we are free!
Our help is from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

(Psalm 124)

What if the Lord had not been on our side? Immediately that question struck me. Much like my previous post, questioned, where would I be if I had not taken God's hand, his offer of rescue, Psalm 124 asks the very same thing. What is super awesome is that the question is answered. The psalmist knows without a doubt that without God's rescue, they would have been goners. I love the fact that they repeat the question to give it more emphasis. Ask yourself right now, where would you be if you had not been rescued by God? Or maybe this whole idea of God being on your side is something new to you. Perhaps you feel cheated, and hopeless. Maybe you are still waiting on God for answers. Here's hope for you. God IS on your side. Satan and the World are not. The psalmist says it himself! The psalmist knew that his help came from the Lord. He knew it couldn't have come from any other place, but from the Lord. What is there left to do, other than praise God for his faithfulness, his mercy, his love, and for his help in the midst of trouble! The psalmist helped to remind me that I should maintain an "attitude of gratitude" all the time. God has certainly done way more for me that I ever deserved, and yet he continues to do things for me all the time because he loves me. The same is true for you. God loves you, and no matter where you are right now, he sees you. Waiting to be rescued? He is waiting to rescue. Call on his name and you will be saved. We've got to stop keeping track of all the things that God hasn't done for us (because that's selfish and dangerously close to keeping "wrongs" against God) When is the last time you took note of all the things he has done for you? If you really think about it, they will be innumerable.
