“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge” (Psalm 46:1-3)
Wow! Those are some pretty powerful verses, don’t you think? I mean isn’t that like saying, "God is on my side. He IS for ME. There is absolutely NOTHING anyone or anything can do to interfere with HIS plans for my life. Things might look scary on the outside, but God IS in control of everything. He's got my back. Bring it on!" That’s a pretty bold statement and a powerful one too! It takes a great deal of faith and trust in God to be able to say that and actually mean it. It’s one thing to be able to say it when you are walking in peaceful times beside still waters. It’s another thing to be able to say it when the waves are crashing all around you and the water threatens to drown you. It takes great confidence in knowing who God is, to be able to know, even in the midst of a great struggle that God is indeed in control and nothing absolutely nothing will happen without him standing right beside you. I have found great comfort in knowing that God is with me, even in my darkest hours, that he is right beside me; walking with me, holding my hand and guiding me where he wants me to be; and all because he loves me greatly! Do you know that the same is true for you? All of this is true for you! Let’s revisit some of the Psalms we’ve already covered to see these truths.
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. (Psalm 32:8)
For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. (Psalm 33:4)
But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. (Psalm 33:11)
The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. (Psalm 34:17-19)
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. (Psalm 37:23-24)
I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord. (Psalm 40:1-3)
